Jiggity Jag is a painting that I am dedicating to my Grandmother Annie Greenawalt. There is a poem titled Jiggity Jag (1987), 2023 that accompanies the work. It is about a moment of survival and resilience. It is about breath and voice, attacked and renowned. Beyond that, I give it over to the viewer to see and read it as they wish.
This work will be in the show "It's OK, But It Ain't Right" at Woodward Contemporary Gallery, San Diego, CA. The exhibition runs from August 27 to September 29, 2025
Jiggity Jag (1987), 2023
Three in the morning
You turned to dark
My path toward the door... Ended
thrown to the floor
Home again,
home again
Jiggity jog
Your thumbs on my windpipe
Knee on my heart
Keys in my hand... still
Won’t take my breath away
Home again,
home again
Jiggity jig
Run again,
run again
Jiggity jig
Three dozen years
Summon my voice
Fly away, fly away
Jiggity jag.
